Pinterest Ads Conversion-Tracking

  • A conversion is a target activity defined by you.
  • Conversion tracking can be used to identify profitable activities on the website, such as purchases, registrations e.g. for a newsletter or filling out a form.

Requirements for setting up conversion tracking:

  • The conversion tracking code, the so-called Pinterest tag, must be inserted on your website.

Creation and installation of the Pinterest tag:

The tag can be installed in two different ways:

  1. You/your IT does the manual installation of the tag:
  • Open the Ads Manager and go to the Ads - Conversions subpage.
  • Under "Install the Pinterest tag", select the option "Add the website code" and click "Add code".
  • Enter your website URL
  • Install the base code by copying and pasting it into the <head> tag of your website's HTML code.
  • Optionally activate Automatic Enhanced Matching. This is an addition to your Pinterest tag that matches conversion data to users who are responsible for the conversion. Enhanced Match sends encrypted emails to Pinterest to match website events when there is no Pinterest cookie. Enhanced Match also allows you to track cross-device checkouts, which would otherwise not be possible. This way, conversions reported in Ads Manager are accurately displayed. You can also have your tag data automatically enriched with metadata, which is also optional.
  • To transmit specific events on the website, such as purchases and their values, insert the corresponding event code on the appropriate subpage on your website.
  • You can find the event codes either in the Ads Manager or in this sample list. Copy the respective code and paste the code between the <head> and </head> tags on the corresponding subpage.
  • Verify the Pinterest tag using the Chrome extension "Pinterest Tag Helper". Visit your page to test the events and verify them in Pinterest Tag Helper. Alternatively, you can verify the tag via the Pinterest Ad Manager in the menu item "Conversions" under Test Events.
